Recording the Heart’s Rhythm
A Holter monitor is a recording of the heart’s rhythm continuously over 24 hours. The test is painless and involves placing a sticky patch on the skin over the left side of the chest. The patch has a digital recorder inside it. A diary is provided to record daily activities and especially any bothersome symptoms.
The test is very helpful for patients with chest pain, palpitations, irregular heartbeats, dizziness or fainting, as well as to screen any rhythm problems in patients who have had heart surgery in the past or who may have a family history heart rhythm issues.
